One of the leading Croatian trumpet players, Vedran Kocelj (Cavtat, 1977) studied at the Luka Sorkočević Art School in Dubrovnik with Nino Obradović and graduated from the Academy of Music in Ljubljana in the class of Stanko Arnold. Since 1998 he has been solo trumpet of the Croatian Radiotelevision Symphony Orchestra.
His interests run from the baroque to the present: he plays natural trumpet, piccolo trumpet and cornet, has collaborated with the Croatian Baroque Ensemble since its founding, and has been a member of the contemporary-music Cantus Ensemble since 2001. He is also a member of Trio Seraphim with soprano Monika Cerovčec and organist Pavlo Mašić.
His solo repertoire includes concertos by Jolivet, Michael Haydn, Bach's Second Brandenburg and Pintscher's Chute d'étoiles. He gave the world premiere of Milko Kelemen's Tromberia with the Zagreb Philharmonic under Luca Pfaff, and has recorded Bjelinski's Serenade and the first complete version of Papandopulo's Concertino for trumpet with the Croatian Radiotelevision Symphony Orchestra.
